A Second Reason to go to Weedsport, New York.
Regular readers might recall the Mennonite-run Serenity Meadows Dairy Farm that I mentioned in THE GREAT CRÈME FRAÎCHE MURDER MYSTERY OF 2024... you know, the place where I bought raw, grass-fed Jersey cow milk, a.k.a. the "Wagyu of Milk." Well, on my way home from Boston yesterday I suddenly decided to buy some more of that liquid gold... and as I was heading north up State Route 34 from Thruway exit 40, the sign shown above caught my eye and I decided to check it out.
Mary and companion in her Barn Store.
MARY'S BARN MARKET is every bit as unpretentious as the dairy farm a mile up the road, and equally worth a special trip. If you occasionally tire of malls and traffic and crappy stuff... if you need the perfect boots and gloves for working your own soil... and/or you simply want a refreshing and relaxing break from Big Box stores and impersonal service, I recommend you visit Mary. She'll be happy to see you.
NOTES:
MARY'S BARN MARKET does not have a website, but they do have a Facebook page, and their thumbnail info is available HERE.
For me, a perfect Exit 40 Trifecta would be a stop at Mary's and then Serenity Meadows, followed by a brief detour down to Union Springs to the HEART & HANDS WINE COMPANY, a.k.a. The Impossibly Perfect Winery. The common denominator? Small and completely unpretentious businesses selling great stuff and run by very nice people.
I wish I knew about this last week when I was in that neighborhood. I will have to check it out the next time I go through.
